Police Investigating Overnight Burglary

Created by Cohasset Mariner on 6th July 2007, 1:16 pm

Cohasset Police Department Criminal Investigation Division detectives are investigating an overnight burglary that resulted in the larceny of electronic equipment from a residence on Beechwood Street in Cohasset. Preliminary investigation revealed that the house was burglarized between 11:30 p.m., June 19, and 8:15 a.m., June 20. The point of entry is believed to be an unsecured door leading into the kitchen of the victim’s residence. The residence was entered while the victim was sleeping.

Detectives believe that this incident is consistent with a series of other similar overnight burglaries that have occurred across the South Shore over the course of the past five months. Cohasset detectives are working with detectives from the other affected communities and are pooling evidence in an attempt to progress the investigation. Residents are reminded to secure their doors and windows at night and are asked to report any suspicious behavior, unusual noises or suspicious vehicles (moving slowly, driving without lights, etc.) to the police department immediately.

Police Chief James Hussey said most burglaries occur during the daytime when no one is home. “This type is a lot different – because there is more of a chance for the homeowner to confront the intruder.”
Hussey said residents should lock first floor doors and windows and report anything unusual, even a dog barking in the middle of the night if that is not the norm. For those without air conditioning Hussey said some hardware stores sell devices that will prevent a window from being opened enough that someone could climb through.

Any information concerning this incident should be provided to the Cohasset Police Department CID at 781-383-1055, ext. 1047.
