Cohasset police have arrested a Brien J. Buckley, a 21-year-old Cushing Road resident, on charges of distributing marijuana.
During the afternoon of Nov. 1, Cohasset detectives, acting on information that a resident was distributing marijuana from his home, established surveillance of the home at 37 Cushing Road.
Detectives observed James Wood, 18, of Marshfield meet briefly with Buckley then leave the area. Police then observed Wood meeting with Robert Noble, 17, of Marshfield and a 15-year-old Marshfield juvenile, in the area of Bancroft Way. Police stopped and searched the teens and seized about one ounce of marijuana from under the front seat of their vehicle, found one gram of marijuana on the juvenile, and a Xanaz pill on Noble. All three were arrested without incident, police said.
During the next 10 minutes, detectives saw Buckley meet briefly with the occupants of two other cars that then left the area.
Police stopped one of the vehicles and seized about one ounce of marijuana. The occupants said they had purchased the marijuana from Buckley.
At 4:50 p.m., detective saw Buckley leave his home and head up Norfolk Road and onto Bancroft Road where he was stopped.
Officers found about one-half ounce of marijuana inside Buckley’s vehicle and he was arrested without incident.
Police served a search warrant at 37 Cushing Road on Nov. 2 and seized about two pounds of marijuana, some crack cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms, a scale and marijuana packaging supplies. They also seized $7,266 in US currency from a desk and safe in the bedroom. The street value of the marijuana seized is about $13,000, police said.
Buckley is facing several marijuana charges including drug violation near a school and conspiracy to violate the drug law. Police said additional charges against Buckley will be filed related to the evidence seized during execution of the warrant.
Buckley and the others were arraigned Monday in Quincy District Court.
Lt. Gregory Lennon described the arrest as a very successful drug suppression operation conducted by the Cohasset Criminal Investigation Division with the assistance of the patrol division.
“This operation resulted in the arrest of a significant source of supply of marijuana to Cohasset youth and youth from surrounding towns,” Lennon stated in a press release. “We are confident that this arrest will make a major impact on the availability of marijuana to the adolescent population in this area.”
