Cohasset - A 20-year-old Cohasset man was arrested last week on drug trafficking charges.
Cohasset and Hingham police, in conjunction with Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office, worked together on the investigation that led to the arrest last Wednesday (April 29) at 8:36 p.m., of Benjamin W. Flynn, 20, of 41 Atlantic Ave., Cohasset.
Police had received information from various sources that Flynn was supplying OxyContin illegally. OxyContin (brand name for Oxycodone) is best known as the main active ingredient in a number of oral medications commonly prescribed for the relief of moderate to severe pain.
As part of the investigation, officers followed Flynn to a location and made observations consistent with the purchase and sale of OxyContin, police said.
On April 29, State Police and Hingham detectives stopped the BMW that Flynn was driving on Route 3.
Further investigation revealed a clear plastic bag with 49 pills that turned out to be 80-milligram OxyContin pills in Flynn’s sweatshirt.
When they stopped the BMW, police also found a partially cut up pill, a pill grinder, a straw, and razor blade on the passenger seat.
Also found were five, one-quarter ounce bags of marijuana packaged for sale, a marijuana pipe, and $80 in cash.
Police said Flynn later admitted to having snorted OxyContin and to having smoked marijuana prior to his being stopped.
Flynn is charged with trafficking in a Class A substance (OxyContin); possession of Class D (marijuana) with intent to distribute; Possession of Class D (marijuana); operating under the influence of drugs and operating to endanger.
Police estimate the street value of the pills seized from Flynn at $4,000.
“This is a good example of how police departments work jointly to target alleged, multi-jurisdictional drug traffickers,” Cohasset Detective Lt. Gregory Lennon said.
