An alert neighbor foiled a house break-in on Beach Street, police said.
The man called police when he saw two boys, 14 and 15, enter his neighbor’s home about noon on Thursday. The neighbors were out of state for the holiday, he told police.
While officers were on their way to the house, the neighbor chased the boys out of the house and into nearby woods.
Police found out who the boys were from a third boy, called them on their cell phones and convinced them to give up. The boys walked out of the woods and both were charged with breaking and entering during the daytime with the intent to commit a felony, trespassing and disorderly conduct. They are scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Quincy Juvenile Court. Both boys were released to their parents.
“This was a situation that involved some young folks that made some very poor and dangerous decisions on Thanksgiving Day. Both boys come from good families and this seems to have been a temporary lapse in good judgment. I don’t expect that we will see these two again anytime soon,” Cohasset Police Lt. William Quigley said.
Police are awaiting the homeowners’ return from out of state to determine if any items are missing from the house. Police said the home was unlocked at the time of the break-in.
