Liquor store alerts police of drunk driver

Created by Cohasset Mariner on 27th November 2009, 8:44 am

It may seem unusual for police to praise a liquor store – but Cohasset Police have good things to say about Curtis Liquors in Tedeschi Plaza. The store, which is well known for “carding” all ages, consistently calls police when there is a problem or a customer appears to be under the influence of alcohol.

“They do an outstanding job,” Lt. William Quigley said. “They really pay attention and do the right thing.”

Saturday was no exception when an apparently intoxicated woman tried to buy a bottle of vodka. The store refused to sell the liquor to her but also called police because they were concerned about her driving. The woman pulled out in front of oncoming traffic as she made a left out of the plaza and was stopped by a Cohasset officer responding to the call.

The 59-year-old Scituate woman was arrested for operating under the influence of alcohol (second offense) and for failure to yield to oncoming traffic.
